The South African Weather Service (Saws) has released its latest weather forecast for Thursday, 22 May 2025.

Saws has issued a warning for damaging waves on the coast, while inland provinces remain mostly fine and cool. Here’s what you need to know.

Weather warnings, Thursday, 22 May

Impact-based warnings

The weather service has issued a yellow level 2 warning for damaging waves that may lead to difficulties in navigation at sea. Localised disruption of harbours and ports, as well as localised interruptions to beachfront activities, are expected between Cape Agulhas and Kosi Bay.

Provincial weather forecast

Here’s what to expect in your province on Thursday, 22 May:

Gauteng:

Residents of Gauteng expect it to be fine and cold to cool weather.

The region’s expected UVB sunburn index is “high”.

Residents should take the necessary precautions against prolonged sun exposure.

Mpumalanga:

Mpumalanga residents can expect fine and cool to cold conditions, but warm in the Lowveld.

Limpopo:

The day will be fine and cool to warm.

North West:

Fine and cool weather awaits North West residents.

Free State:

Residents of the Free State will experience morning fog in the east; otherwise, it will be fine and cold to cool.

Northern Cape:

The day will be fine and cold to cool.

Western Cape:

Western Cape residents can expect morning fog patches over the western interior; otherwise, it will be fine and cool to cold. It will be partly cloudy in the south.

Eastern Cape (western half):

It will be partly cloudy with isolated morning showers and rain along the coast and adjacent interior; otherwise, it will be fine and cool, but cold in places over the interior.

Eastern Cape (eastern half):

The day will be partly cloudy with isolated showers and rain along the coast and adjacent interior; otherwise, it will be fine and cold to cool.

KwaZulu-Natal:

Residents of KwaZulu-Natal can look forward to partly cloudy and cold to cool conditions with isolated showers and rain along the coast and adjacent interior.
