Zille is just like Mugabe, says Twitter on ‘Dear Helen’ hashtag

'L.A.N.D is requested,' say some tweeps, adopting Jeff Radebe's writing style to get their point across.

Columnist Max du Preez wrote a column pleading with Western Cape Premier Helen Zille to stop causing divisions within the DA and just step down.

His column, titled ‘Dear Helen, please call it off’, and published on News24 on Tuesday, points out all the positive things Zille had done, but it also calls for her to step down following her tweets on colonialism.

Tweeps were so impressed with the column they started a hashtag, #DearHelen, to tell the premier exactly what they thought of her. While some reiterated Du Preez’s call for Zille to step down, some said she must stay there so she could expose further cracks within the party.

Some have likened her to Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe, who was once described as a president who would rule from his grave.

The premier, however, did not seem to be bothered with the column or the tweets, as she was busy warning Capetonians to prepare for the big storm set to hit Western Cape today and tomorrow.

“Alert: Due to severity of storm expected in next 24 hrs, Western Cape government has taken an unprecedented decision to close prov schools tomorrow 7 June,” she wrote.
