Two in hospital following cash-in-transit heist in Germiston

Police said one of the suspects pointed a gun at the security guards and took a bag of money from them.

Two people have been shot and wounded during a cash-in-transit heist on the corner of Spilsbury and Meyer streets, in Germiston, on the East Rand, on Monday.

Germiston police spokesperson Captain George Raphulu said: “Two armed suspects, driving a Toyota Rav 4, approached one of the cash-in-transit security guards.”

“One of the suspects pointed a gun at the security guards and took a bag of money from them.”

Raphulu said the suspects fired a number of shots, which injured two bystanders, before fleeing the scene, Germston City News reported.

“One person was shot in the leg and the other in the chest. Both were taken to hospital.

“The suspects made off with an undisclosed amount of money.”

The matter is under police investigation.
