The atmosphere in Ga-Kgapane is tense at the moment after a service delivery protest erupted turned violent this morning, Letaba Herald reports.
Demonstrators demand that their plea for service delivery be addressed.
“There is little or no police visibility, and residents have blocked the roads with stones,” said a source.
According to an eyewitness, schoolchildren can be seen everywhere on the township streets, whiles workers are stranded and cannot get to work in Tzaneen and surrounding areas. The streets are marked by a convoy of cars trying to make way out of the township.
Matric preliminaries are under way, and some learners have missed their papers.

“They blocked all the roads. I am shocked by what just happened and what I saw. Police helicopters are here now. I will not be able to get to work. It is to dangerous, everyone is throwing stones. They’ve chased me and my brother away. My feet are bleeding,” a shocked Ga-Kgapane resident said.
Apparently another service delivery protest took place in the Nwamitwa villages outside Tzaneen over water issues.
A resident said they have been experiencing water shortages for the past three months, and the water trucks could not reach all the villages in the Nwamitwa area.
