Police seize cocaine worth R28k in KwaDukuza

It is the fourth significant drug bust in the last two months.

iLembe police arrested a 29-year-old foreign national with drugs worth around R28 000 in Newtown, KwaDukuza on Wednesday (January 14).

Along with the Provincial Tactical Joint Operational Centre and the Durban K9 Unit, iLembe police tracked the man in a co-ordinated initiative targeting drug dealing.

Seventy-seven pieces of rock cocaine and five ‘full moon pieces’ were seized from the suspect.

iLembe police communications official Priya Nunkumar said the man has been charged for possession of rock cocaine.

“This arrest highlights the value of intelligence-led policing in disrupting drug supply in our communities. Police remain committed to tracking down those involved in the illegal drug trade and removing dangerous substances from our streets,” said Nunkumar.

The arrest was at least the fourth significant drug bust in iLembe since November.

On November 17, two men were arrested in a Shaka’s Head estate with cocaine, crystal meth and methcathinone (cat) worth R40 000.

A few weeks later, police busted a Groutville drug operation, seizing R210 000 worth of heroin, plus drug paraphernalia and a vehicle to the value of a further R443 000.

Last week, almost 800 pieces of rock cocaine and whoonga capsules were seized as police arrested two women in Nkobongo.

Police said the arrests form part of ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and distribution in the district.
