Every-berry loves a strawberry

It was a jolly, juicy affair at the Ballito Strawberry Festival.

Ballito’s first ever Strawberry Festival left people begging for more after the event was sold out by midday on Saturday.

Short and tall arrived from far and wide to get a taste of Cappeny Estates’ juicy strawberries.

After the exciting hunt for the perfect berries, the children cooled down with an ice cream and the parents tried the specially brewed strawberry beer.

The variety of food vendors offered a yummy bite for everyone – be it a healthy bunless burger or a cheesy piece of pizza.

Although there were a few hiccups such as visitors struggling to find the farm, sold out tickets and too great a demand for strawberries, these teething problems are to be expected for a virgin event.

Cappeny Estate marketing executive, Yoliswa Gumede said about 5000 tickets were sold.

“Everyone with a ticket was allowed in, however about a 1000 people without tickets had to be turned away,” she said.

It was clear that this is a festival people have been waiting for and one many will return to. So get ready for next year’s red festival, but remember early bird catches the strawberry.
