Opportunistic criminals on the prowl in Ballito

Be alert for robbers casing your joint.

A group of criminals have reportedly been casing complexes in Ballito, looking for access codes and potential security weaknesses.

Ballito resident Craig Anthony, said a woman and three men were intimidating domestic staff at a complex to try and gain access last Thursday morning.

“My wife and her helper were driving towards Forest View near Townsend Park when they came across a domestic worker who told them about the four suspicious people,” said Anthony.

The domestic explained to them how she was approached by the group driving a silver Polo with a Mpumalanga registration number.

“They asked her if she worked at Forest View and then tried to find out what the access code was and how they could get in.”

According to Anthony, she pretended not to work in the complex and walked around the corner until the car disappeared.

The same Polo was apparently spotted later on the corner of Avondale Drive.

Forest View’s committee chairman, Bryan Hopf, said they are aware of the incident.

“We have an internal WhatsApp group so everyone knows about what happened,” said Hopf.

He said the women working at the complex are fortunately very observant and curious about their surroundings.

“We will have a meeting this week Thursday to discuss the matter and hopefully speak to the worker ourselves to try and get more details and a good description of the people.”

Hopf said Forest View has been incident free for many years and is a safe and secure complex.
