“He always wanted to make a difference”

A Group Five employee who was working at the Avon peaking power plant and Nkobongo social activist, Wiseman Ngcobo (41), was stabbed and killed in Shayamoya on Saturday night, November 21.

His friend Ajipha Ntamila said Ngcobo was one of the people who was at the forefront of the talks when the community wanted Dinuphozo Primary School to be built.

Ntamila said Ngcobo was always ready to represent his community. The township of Nkobongo had been built because of people like Ngcobo, who were not afraid to raise their concerns about their area.

“He was a very intelligent man. He was very helpful during our struggle in the apartheid times. It is sad that he died in this manner,” said Ntamila.

Councillor Themba Ntuli said Ngcobo was part of the committee that planned the township.

“He made sure that when the township was built, there was space left for development, otherwise there would not have been space for a school in our area,” said Ntuli.

Makhosi Ngcobo, Wiseman’s aunt said he was very humble and full of humour.

“I will sadly miss him and I hope that those who killed him will be found and prosecuted,” said Mgcobo.

The family suspect that he was robbed and killed for his cell phone and wallet.

“It is very painful to lose him in this manner. I wonder what they wanted from him, because he did not have money, he was going to get paid on Wednesday,” said Ngcobo.

Nkobongo traditional leader New Mlondo said the community of Nkobongo needs to take a stand against crime as it was getting out of hand.
