ConinghamLee spent two happy, busy afternoons at Mukovheni (Word of Hope) Center in Fairbreeze Township, near Crocodile Creek off the R102, to lend a helping hand to two community heroes.
Head of financial services, San-Mari Swart said Pastor Claytus and Mama Maria have accomplished amazing things with very little at the center.
“Pastor Claytus is a humble, intelligent, visionary who has been making a difference in this township for 13 years together with living legend Mama Maria. They run a crèche for around 20 little ones aged between two and five years and they provide them with breakfast and lunch,” said Swart.
“They also have a feeding scheme, providing a meal to around 60 children age six to 15. For many children, this is the only meal they have in the day.”
She said the crèche children who can do so, contribute financially each month, but this does not even cover the basic food expenses let alone the electricity and water bill.
“Vision 153 also deliver food and have done their best to assist as well as other local folk who have brought food to the school. They have in the past assisted when the utilities have been cut off and with various upliftment projects at the crèche.”
Together with Paul Herbst senior, the ConninghamLee staff assisted with some much needed maintenance.
“We have tried to do our bit and thanks to Paul Herbst senior’s fantastic electrical skills, our “unskilled but willing” staff helped to repair fences, gates, stoves, playground equipment, install shelving and do some painting. We also prepared a meal for the children and had the pleasure of seeing the happiness this small gesture brought to them.”
“This is a worthwhile cause that will actually make a difference and is actively initiated by local folk in the community.”
She said Pastor Claytus wanted to take in more children as well as babies, as he now has to turn hungry children away when they do not have food to prepare.
“It is a community that is in serious need of more heroes to come and save the day and you can be that hero by donating to their wish list.”
The list consist of water, oil, rice, mielie meal, oats, beans, salt, beef/chicken stock, onions, potatoes, carrots, tomatoes, peanut butter, jam, curry powder, margarine, milk and any vegetables and fruit, as well as clothing, books, toys, a gas stove (critical), hardware, a self-sufficient vegetable garden, sewing machines and computers.
