Labour department to address media on Tongaat Mall
The outcome of the investigation by the Commission of Enquiry was expected in June.
The Tongaat Mall collapse will be addressed at a media briefing by the labour department on December 8 in Pretoria.
This was announced by the department’s spokesperson, Mokgadi Pela.
When asked if the Thongathi Mall Structural Collapse Commission of Enquiry’s report will be made available at the meeting, Pela elegantly sidestepped the question, saying that all questions will be answered at the meeting.
“All queries will be addressed at the briefing and all the important stakeholders will be present to make sure no question goes unanswered,” said Pela.
The commission was established to investigate events leading to the collapse of the mall and had been collecting evidence from February 2014.
They were expected to hand over a report in June, but the report has not been made public.
The mall, which collapsed in November 2013, killing two people and leaving 29 injured, is in the process of being bought by Keystone Investments and Richter van Niekerk Properties (RVN).
