Litchis put smiles on children’s dials at Litchi Festival

Organised by Rotary Zimbali, the Litchi Festival and The North Coast Courier Orphan Fund, orphans from Sinikithemba Organisation, Siyakhula Centre, Vision 153 and Nkobongo Resource Centre were each able to fill a bucket with litchis and enjoy the experience of picking them themselves.

Forty-two orphans were treated to a delicious outing at The Grange litchi farm in Sheffield on Monday.

Organised by Rotary Zimbali, the Litchi Festival and The North Coast Courier Orphan Fund, orphans from Sinikithemba Organisation, Siyakhula Centre, Vision 153 and Nkobongo Resource Centre were each able to fill a bucket with litchis and enjoy the experience of picking them themselves.

Orphan Fund coordinator, Mpume Vilakazi, said it was a joyous day, filled with many smiles.

The Litchi Festival officially opened on Monday this week and remain open until December 31, or until the litchis run out.

Daily times are 9am to 3pm, but on December 24 only until midday.

The festival will be closed on Christmas Day on Saturday, while Sunday is open to bookings only.

The children and helpers have their litchis packaged.

You get to enjoy the fun by eating as many litchis as you can, and taking home a load of litchis of 1.6kg for R160 per person for those aged 3 and up.

Children under 3 pay R50 with no bucket.
