Ballito’s Lifestyle Gallery launches new exhibition on nature

The exhibition focusing on the environment runs until November 27.

Attracting mixed medium artists from across South Africa, the ‘4Fs Sakes’ exhibition is an ode to the world around us.

The works of more than 30 artists, mostly from KwaZulu-Natal with a few from Johannesburg, adorn the walls and surfaces of the Lifestyle Gallery.

Skye Proctor, Sam Sadie and Franky McCarthy.

It is the newest exhibition curated by Jane Digby, with the four Fs representing Fauna, Flora, Feathers and Fur – or most of what makes up our natural world.

These elements are becoming ever scarcer and the exhibition also hopes to educate on climate threats, while promoting that which we have left.

Kaitlynn Ingram and Thandeka Myeni admire one of Lesley Ireland Mathew’s vibrant paintings.

“When the idea was conceived, we wanted to showcase artists who drew from their surroundings. But, of course, not everyone is surrounded by nature, so it became a study on inspiration itself,” said Digby.

So, although you may see stunning landscapes or renderings of nature, you will also see a township diorama and find thought-provoking pieces throughout.

Kwanele Sishi’s ‘Ithemba Alibulali’.

Digby’s own latest works consider that which we have now that may soon be lost, detailing chameleons, bees and clown fish that may not be around for our grandchildren to see failing major intervention.

‘Now you see it, now you don’t’ is one of the central questions posed by the exhibition, but make no mistake – it is a celebration too.

Michael, Grant and Richard Kidd enjoyed the new works on display..

At the opening last Thursday, attendees had the opportunity of browsing the artworks while listening to a curated playlist on wireless headphones which were designed to add to the experience.

Four difficult and existential questions frame the ‘would you rather’ interactive piece, which gives one the chance to engage with the exhibition and be a part of the art itself.
