South Africans will face Stage 3 loadshedding from 5.30pm on Saturday, Eskom announced in a brief statement earlier today.
The power utility did not reveal the cause of the sudden rolling blackouts, except to say it had experienced “another temporary setback.”
Eskom said Stage 3 will continue until further notice, with an update expected on Sunday.
This marks the first loadshedding since late January, following a 10-month stretch of uninterrupted power.
At the time, Eskom CEO Dan Marokane assured the nation that loadshedding was “largely behind us” thanks to structural improvements in the generation fleet, describing January’s cuts as a temporary hiccup.
The return of rolling blackouts has reignited concerns over the grid’s stability, despite recent progress.
Loadshedding will affect KwaDukuza municipality as follows:
Stanger Northern Grid
Saturday: 7pm to 9.30pm
Sunday: 11am to 1.30pm; 7pm to 9.30pm
Ballito Southern Grid
Saturday: 7pm to 9.30pm
Sunday: 3am to 5.30am, 7pm to 9.30pm
