Super Hank flies to series victory

Salt Rock's Hank McGregor paddles to victory in the Varsity College FNB Marine Surfski series.

Hank McGregor is fast becoming the Superman of paddling as he raked in another title last Friday. Salt Rock’s McGregor claimed the Marine Surfski Series title on Friday, February 27 after winning the IT Works Surfski Challenge, race eight of the Varsity College FNB Marine Surfski Series.

McGregor, racing in the colours of Jeep Team/Epic Kayaks, shared the title in 2014 with Epic Kayaks’ Matthew Bouman and said he was stoked to make the title his own again.

This was McGregor’s fifth victory out of the eight so far in this year’s series but with two races to go, McGregor has built up an unbeatable lead in this year’s men’s overall log.

He said it was nice to be racing neck and neck with Bouman, who was a world class athlete and deserved last year’s title just as much as he did.

McGregor said although he has the series in the bag, he will be on the start line in the remaining two series races to give it his all because you are only as good as your last race.

Conditions on the day were flat, which lead to tight, tactical racing throughout. Bouman finished only 30 seconds behind McGregor to secure second place on the log.

Jenna Ward was part of Fenn Kayaks’ clean sweep, claiming second place after team mate Nikki Russell.

The next race in the series takes place on Friday, March 6 at Addington Beach.
