Southbroom Golf Club hosts Interzone Championships for KZN teams
Selected iLembe players gear up to represent KZN at South African Country and Districts inter-provincial tournament.

The iLembe golf team recently claimed its first title in over a decade at the provincial Interzone Championships.
Played at Southbroom Golf Club on March 9, the annual tournament hosted country and district teams from across KZN.
After a weekend of tense head-to-head matchplay matches, iLembe claimed their first team victory since 2013.
“It is so encouraging to see the youngsters and development players coming through the ranks. It certainly bodes well for the future of iLembe golf,” said team captain, Greg Upneck.
Upneck, who represents Zimbali Country Club and Thobelani Magwaza, who plays for Umhlali Country Club, both went unbeaten across their five matchplay matches.
The remainder of the team comprised Patrick Chanda, Thabiso Magwaza, Callum Lingley, Terence Hope and Clive and Travis Kitch.
In conjunction with the team event over the weekend, Southbroom also hosted the KZN Country and Districts Individual Strokeplay tournament on March 8.
Following consecutive rounds of 70 (-2), Umhlali’s Chanda finished in second place at -4, two shots off the lead.
Upneck finished at even par, good for fourth place, while the Magwaza brothers claimed 10th (Thabiso, +5) and 11th (Thobelani, +7) respectively.
A KZN country and districts team was also selected after the weekend and Upneck, Chanda and the Magwazas were picked.
They will join four other team-members in representing KZN at the South African Country and Districts Inter-provincial Tournament at Heron Banks in Vanderbijlpark in May.
