Remedial school appeals for donations

uMhlanga's Cornerstone Remdial School appeals for a sponsorship for a underprivileged child.

CORNERSTONE Remedial School, a newly founded school in uMhlanga, is looking for prospective candidates to subsidise payment of school fees for a pupil next year.

Cornerstone is a remedial school designed to help children from all walks of life that not only need individual attention, but also a normal schooling environment.

For this reason, Cornerstone takes a maximum of 10 pupils at a time (per class), who are taught by a qualified educator.?

The school accepts pupils from Grade R to Grade 7.

According to the school’s founder and principal, Calvin Pienaar, it is vital that children have interaction with other children, so as to learn life’s social interactions, but that being said, the class is kept to a minimum size so as to still be able to give one-on-one attention to each child in the class.

The school fees are structured in such a way that it costs R3 000 per month, or R9 000, per term with a total school fee of R36 000 per year.

“This would be the amount we are looking for to put one underprivileged pupil through our school,” Pienaar said.

“Any additional money raised will be used for therapies such as occupational therapy, neurofeedback therapy, speech therapy and educational psychology and so on, as well as school books, uniforms and transport.

“We ideally hope to raise at least R50 000 with the aim of giving a child two of the best Christmas gifts, hope and an education,” he added.

The requirements of this pupil will be:

• From an underprivileged background / home

• Learning difficulties

• Social / psychological difficulties

• Unable to attend a mainstream school
