The books, entitled The Lacerate, The Vexation and The Ricochet, are part of a series that revolve around two characters in high school that cross paths due to their shared supernatural powers. They realise they are destined to be together and defeat evil. Nemisha says it is not as dark as it seems, and that the novels can be described as drama, fantasy and thriller all rolled into one.
Nemisha started writing when she was in Grade 7, during school holidays, and published her first book in Grade 9. She joined a book club to develop her skills. The third book was published this year and she is busy working on the fourth and final book of the series.
Last year Nemisha was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a blood disorder, and has been in remission since November. “Writing also helped me with what I went through last year,” she said. “I feel so good now.”
“Sometimes when you are going through something in your life, it’s more about writing for yourself, and about chasing your own dreams,” said the young author, who had no idea she would end up writing novels. “I want to be an inspiration to people when I grow up.”
“The third book is The Ricochet, and it reflects how I bounced back from last year. I wrote it more for me and the character in the story. It is very personal.”
Nemisha plans to study psychology next year and wants to continue writing. “I have a knack for reading body language and facial expression, so I think psychology will suit me.”
Nemisha recently handed over signed copies of her three novels to the Northlands Girls’ High School library so that her fellow pupils can enjoy reading them.
