Wildlife art raises funds for endangered species

THIS year The Crescent will is hosting its second art exhibition with wildlife-inspired artwork from local schools (Grade R to Grade 7). Artwork will focus on five endangered animals: Rhino, Lion, Cheetah, Elephant and Wild Dog.

The winner of each grade stands a chance to win R2 000 to spend at The Crescent. First runner up in each grade will each receive a R200 voucher courtesy of Bargain Books. Selected art from the competition will be included in the Rhino meets Reality Coffee Table Book, which will be sold to raise funds for Project Rhino KZN. Participating schools will also receive a portion from each book sold. Kingsley Holgate will be the guest of honour at the prize giving, taking place on 20 September.

“Last year, the Crescent’s Rhino meets Reality campaign generated R47 657.55 for Project Rhino KZN. These funds helped us grow our fledgling aerial surveillance efforts into a fully-fledged programme, the Zululand Anti-Poaching Wing, which now provides aerial support to 24 game reserves in northern KZN, where rhino poaching threats are highest,” said Sheelagh Antrobus of project Rhino KZN.

“I appeal to the Durban North community to please join in The Crescent’s second Rhino meets Reality campaign, your support for our efforts in this war we continue to fight, is still critically needed.”
