VEGA School of Brand Leadership’s Durban campus recently held its annual student showcase, documenting the celebration of design and branding of various programme disciplines and students.

It was a colourful night of celebration, a rite of passage for Durban’s freshest and most creative talent across multiple disciplines. While their creative spirit will live on in the lecture rooms and corridors of Vega, these students are about to go out and make their mark in the world as professional visual communicators, copywriters, multimedia designers, photographers, brand leaders and brand managers.

The week-long showcase was launched with an awards ceremony to recognise and reward the most outstanding student works, completed during the year.

Greg Tregoning, the Campus Navigator and co-founder of Vega, opened the evening with a speech summarising notable achievements by students and staff during 2013.

“Vega has always produced outstanding creative thinkers. This year proved once more that the newest generation of creative, brand enthusiasts are in a league of their own,” said Tregoning.

The highlight of the student showcase was the presentation of awards to the students by celebrated members of advertising, photographic and multimedia industries. Luminaries such as Alan Nixon, executive creative director of TBWAHuntLascaris, Max Fowles, founder of FotoMAX, Craig Clay-Smith, group creative director of The Flagship, Nick Gordan, creative group head of The Hardy Boys, Shaun Dutton and Kevin Parry, MD and creative director respectively, of First View Media, and Kathryn Kure, director of eThekwini Community Foundation.

Awards were also presented on behalf of Karen Bradtke, gallery owner and curator of artSPACE Durban, and Patrick Carmody of UX Foundry.

Tregoning said that the increase in creative output from Vega students continues to positively influence the level of outstanding professionalism emanating from Durban.

“This showcase proves that Durban has incredible students and graduates we can be proud of, and we definitely have world-class talent that will be able to contribute to shaping not only the industries that these young professionals will join, but the communities that they will serve.”
