Dumpers cause big stink
Eight ice cream containers full of rotten meat caused a big stink in Waterkant Road last week.
BROADLANDS Retirement Village Residents are furious over an incident that occured last week where heaps of rotting meat was dumped in their rubbish bins. Besides the inconvenience that was caused for Broadlands staff who had to clean the mess, it left an odour that residents said “stinks”.
On Tuesday 11 February, the complex’s green rubbish bins were put on the verge for Durban Solid Waste to empty.
“When staff picked up the emptied bins, it was found that about eight ice cream containers of rotten meat were dumped inside two of the bins. The stench was unbelievable,” said Clive Phillips, a resident of the complex.
“The staff of the complex then had to clean the mess out the bins and placed it on the verge with the rest of the rubbish,” Brian Carr, manager of the complex, added.
Carr and Phillips said they believe it was the staff or owner of a restaurant or catering company that dumped the meat.
“All I can think of that happened was that the person who dumped the meat wanted to take it to the dump. I’m assuming staff at the dump then said they do not take meat products,” Phillips added.
Carr said they’re now stuck between a rock and a hard place: “Who ever dumped it made it our problem now and we don’t know what to do with it. I’m alsmost certain DSW won’t pick it up.”
