Local guards risk their lives
Two of four robbers were arrested this morning when two Enforce Security guards risked their lives to stop the robbers from getting away.
IN an attempt to stop brazen robbers from making off with their loot, two local security guards risked their lives. The brave guards managed to arrest two of the four men who had gone on a stealing spree at a local gym this morning (Thursday, 8 May) by ramming their patrol car into the alleged robber’s getaway vehicle.
The incident resulted in a head-on collision. At about 5.45am this morning a security guard at SMG Rocks, just off Ligthhouse Road, saw four suspects carrying a flat screen TV. He SMSed Enforce patrol officers and told them he suspected they were robbers.
According to Enforce Security’s director, Anthony Feuilherade, the robbers jumped in their getaway car and tried to speed off.
“The suspected robbers then had a head on crash with our patrol car when our officers decided to ram the getaway car. Our guards managed to arrest two of the four robbers, but two are still on the run,” he added.
Two security guards, who were sitting on the back of the security van, had facial injuries, but the robbers were unscathed in the collision. It is not clear if the two suspects that are on the run were injured.
According to Feuilherade, the robbers broke into a nearby gym and stole a laptop, dumbbells, a TV and a cash register with cash inside.
“We ran the number plates, which turned out to be fake. But later we found the car was stolen in Somerset Park on Saturday, 3 May.
The house that was robbed was ransacked before the robbers fled in the Hyundai,” he said. Feuilherade added that it is believed this gang has also been responsible for a number of business robberies in the north Durban area.
The suspects were handed over to Durban North SAPS officers.
