Suspect shot dead in armed robbery

Robbery victims fights back and shoots armed robber dead.

AN armed robber was shot dead in a robbery at the intersection of North Coast Road and the N2 freeway at about 7.10pm on Friday night. According to reports the suspect, along with two others, approached a man waiting for a lift.

The trio tried to rob the man and during the scuffle one of the armed suspects stabbed the victim in his chest.

“The victim, who was waiting for his son to pick him up, was armed and shot the suspect who had stabbed him. The man’s firearm then jammed, and he was disarmed by the remaining two suspects who fled on foot into the surrounding bushes with the firearm,” said Marhsall Security’s Tyron Powell.

“Our members who responded to the incident searched the bushes surrounding the intersection for the suspects without any success. However they discovered a path through the bush from the site of the robbery which leads to Umhlangane Road in Effingham.”

Powell added the suspect who was shot died on scene while the victim’s injuries were not life threatening.
