Truck driver shot twice near Sibaya

Driver assaulted, shot twice and left on the side of the road.

A TRUCK driver was shot twice in what is thought to have been a set-up. The incident occurred on 25 February at about 7pm. According to Lt Raymond Deokaran, a case of attempted murder was opened last Friday by the truck driver who was flagged down by four men on the N2, just before the Sibaya off-ramp.

“The driver pulled over, thinking something was wrong with the truck. The men seemed to have been expecting someone else who worked for the company and who was meant to be driving. The driver was then asked by the four men whether he knew the man they were waiting for. He said he did, and that’s when the men began assaulting him. They pulled him out of the truck and shot him twice in the chest, leaving him lying on the side of the road,” Deokaran said.

“The men took the driver’s cellphone and drove off, heading north. The driver was unable to give a description of the vehicle. We are unsure of the motive for the shooting but suspect the shooting may have been an agreement gone wrong,” Deokaran said.

No arrests have been made.
