One killed, 10 injured in N2 chaos

Accident causes secondary collisions involving several motorists on the N2.

A TRUCK driver believed to be in his thirties was killed after losing control of his vehicle on the N2 just after the M25 KwaMashu Highway this afternoon.
According to Crisis Medical’s Kyle van Reenen, bystanders allege the driver appeared to have lost control of the large fuel tanker causing it to careen off the roadway before coming to rest on its side in the centre median.
“Sadly the driver sustained serious injuries and was declared dead on arrival by paramedics. Specialized hydraulic rescue equipment along with the jaws of life were needed to cut the mans body from the wreckage and Ethekwini Fire and Rescue were on hand to assist.
“The initial collision was followed by a secondary involving several light motor vehicles which collided with the wrecked tanker. Ten people sustained various injuries and were treated on scene before being transported by ambulance to various hospitals for further care,” he said.
Traffic on the busy highway was severely affected and the necessary authorities were on hand to assist.
