Umgeni interchange set for July completion

The M19/Umgeni interchange should be completed by the end of July, says SANRAL.

DURBAN motorists are breathing a sigh of relief following the opening of ramps A1 and A2 at the N2/M19 Umgeni interchange earlier this month.  The longest and highest ramp at the interchange was opened to motorists on 11 June and, prior to this, the south-bound and north-bound ramps leading onto the N2 at the same interchange were opened recently.

The interchange is scheduled for completion in July. But, according to the South African National Roads Agency SOC Ltd (SANRAL), this would largely depend on the contractor’s progress on the site.

SANRAL’s eastern region manager, Logashri Sewnarain, said: “Ramp A2 provides direct access for traffic from the N2 south heading towards Newlands/Inanda Road. In the original layout, the northbound traffic destined for Inanda/Newlands was required to take the Umgeni interchange off-ramp and then proceed across the signalised intersection on the M19 onto the service road and onto Inanda Road.”
