Winds whip up a frenzy in Durban

A tree that collapsed blocked a Durban North road.

WHILE winds did not reach the speeds the municipality’s disaster management unit predicted, there were casualties of the strong winds. In Durban North, a tree was uprooted on Grosvenor Crescent, blocking the width of the road. According to Crisis Medical’s Neil Powell, local residents cleared the debris.

“Residents worked late into the night to cut the tree trunk into smaller pieces. Thankfully, nobody was injured when the tree collapsed,” Powell said.

In Durban, a tree on Clark Road collapsed on a car. The driver of the vehicle was extremely lucky to escape unharmed from the wreckage.

In another incident, a woman working on the Durban beachfront suffered lacerations to her head after she was struck by a pane of glass.

According to Netcare 911 spokesman, Chris Botha, the pane was dislodged from the roof of a beachfront toilet by the strong wind.
