Durban North man finds severed arm in road

A cyclist discovered human remains on the R102 on Sunday morning.

A DURBAN North cyclists made a gruesome discovery yesterday morning along the R102 when came across a severed arm lying in the roadway.

Anton van Wyk said he was cycling towards Ballito when he spotted a foreign object on the road. Upon closer inspection, Van Wyk realised that he had stumbled upon human remains.

“At first glance I thought it was a glove, but when I stopped to investigate I realised that it was a person’s arm,” he said.

Van Wyk said he immediately called police to the scene. He and several by-passers combed the surrounding areas but were unable to find a trace of the rest of the body.

“You don’t expect to find something along the road like that. I suspect that there had been a hit-and-run, but we did not find any other body parts,” he said.

Van Wyk confirmed that police had recovered the arm at the scene. Verulam police spokesman was not available for comment at the time of going to press.
