Track your ID application progress

How to: Track the status of your new ID application progress.

Over 200 000 Smart ID cards and 70 000 green bar-coded ID books are waiting to be collected at Home Affairs offices across the country, the department recently announced.

Citizens who have recently applied for either one were urged to claim the uncollected documents.

To confirm if their documents have indeed arrived at their nearest Home Affairs office members of the public can ‘track’ the application progress, by texting the word ‘ID’, a space and their 13-digit ID number to 32551.

Alternatively they can call the Contact Centre on 0800 60 11 90.

Home Affairs offices are open on:

  • Mondays to Fridays from 8am to 4pm
  • Saturdays from 8.30am to 12.30pm
  • The last Wednesday of the month from 9am to 4pm
