Support a ‘snapping’ good cause

Share the best snaps of your beloved photogenic critters with the Durban & Coast SPCA and you could spot them on the organisation’s 2017 calendar.

DUST off your cameras for The Durban & Coast SPCA’s second Paws for the Camera calendar competition. The staff and volunteers of the animal rights organisation are once again searching for 13 visually stunning photos of dogs, cats, horses and other pets (with or without their humans) to feature on the pages of their annual calendar.

“Last year, we were overwhelmed by the number and quality of entries which perfectly captured the pets’ beauty, playfulness and friendship. In the end through both the entries and calendar sales we raised over R70 000,” said Durban & Coast SPCA’s Lindsey Concer.

According to Concer, the competition is about more than simply raising funds for the neglected, abused and unwanted animals at the SPCA’s Springfield premises.

“This is a great platform to show the world what pets mean to the Durban community. We see so much abuse on a daily basis that it is rewarding to see that there are so many people out there that are taking care of these beautiful creatures alongside us,” she said.

Hopeful entrants are encouraged to submit high resolution, landscape and calendar-worthy photos of domestic pets. Photos of wildlife or exotic pets, weird effects, borders or collages will not be considered.

Entries cost R50 each, and the public can submit as many entries as they want. The competition closes at noon on Friday, 13 October.

All of the entries will be displayed on the SPCA’s website and 13 winners will be selected to feature on the 2017 calendar. The calendars will go on sale mid-November at R180 each.

Contact Lindsey Concer on 031 579 6546 or email lindsey@spcadbn.org.za. Entries can be submitted via the website www.spcadbn.org.za/competition.asp.
