Several parts of Durban left powerless

According to Durban North ward councillor, Shaun Ryley, reports of the power outage are widespread.

THERE are reports of a major power failure around Durban. Northglen News has received a number of calls from residents concerned by the power problems in areas including Durban North, Greenwood Park, KwaMashu, the Durban CBD and various other areas.

According to Durban North ward councillor, Shaun Ryley, reports of the power outage are widespread.

“I am currently on hold with the Electricity Department to report the outage. The operator said they are getting calls from as far as Sea Cow Lake but could not say what the problem is,” he said.

The outage comes days after a substation in Kensington Drive exploded on Friday morning.

Attempts to get hold of City spokesperson Tozi Mthetwa have been unsuccessful.

Other areas affected include Durban North, Morningside, Newlands, Overport, Greenwood Park, Mount Edgecombe.

The outage also comes as the City hosts the World Town Planning Day (WTPD) conference.
