Events leading up to the near drowning are unknown.

A FOUR-YEAR-OLD boy who was pulled from a pool near uMhlanga Beach is in a critical, but stable condition. The child was rescued after a near-drowning on New Year’s eve just before 5.10pm.

According to Shawn Herbst of Netcare 911, uMhlanga lifeguards were called to assist with CPR.

“Events leading up to the near drowning are unknown but reports from the scene allege that a 4-year-old boy had been found unconscious floating in a pool. The child had been pulled out the pool by bystanders while help from the uMhlanga lifeguards was sought.

“On finding the child unresponsive with no pulse, lifeguards had commenced effective CPR until a Netcare 911 Emergency Care Practitioner could take over the resuscitation using Advanced Life Support. A pulse was regained and the boy was taken to hospital,” he said.
