Robbers threaten to burn child in Somerset Park robbery

The men ransacked the home, stealing flat screen TVs, cell phones, a safe containing a firearm, jewellery and an undisclosed amount of cash.

SIX armed suspects stormed a Somerset Park home in an armed robbery in the early hours of Wednesday morning. The suspects, all of whom were armed with firearms and knives, entered the home just before 5am confirmed Kyle van Reenen of Marshall Security.

The suspects allegedly also threatened to burn the homeowner’s young child in the incident.

“The suspects forced entry to the home while the homeowners and their four children were asleep. The armed suspects confronted the young family, tying them up with shoelaces, before confining them to a bedroom. The suspects threatened to burn the homeowner’s young child if they did not provide information as to where the valuables were kept.

“The men ransacked the home, stealing flat screen TVs, cell phones, a safe containing a firearm, jewellery and an undisclosed amount of cash, before making off in two of the homeowner’s Mercedes Benz’s. An attempt to steal the homeowner’s double door fridge failed and it was found abandoned on the property,” he said.

The homeowners managed to free themselves and contact emergency services.

“One of the vehicles stolen was fitted with a satellite tracking device monitored by Tracker SA and was later recovered abandoned in the KwaMashu area by the Marshall Security Special Operations Team. Although no physical injuries were sustained in the ordeal, the family were left considerably traumatized in the robbery,” he said.
