Man arrested with R24 000 worth of dagga

The alleged dealer also attempted to bribe the arresting police officer.

DURBAN North Police have arrested a man for being in possession of dagga with an estimated street value of R24 000. The man was arrested earlier this week by members of the station near the uMhlanga taxi rank. According to the station spokesman, Capt Raymond Deokaran, the man, was caught with several bags of the weed pre-packed for distribution.

“He is a well-known dealer in the area and our members who were conducting an operation with the CPF found him operating at a fruit stall at the rank. We found dagga, several phones, a pair of scissors and R1 000 in cash. He was charged for being in possession of drugs and then for bribery as he attempted to offer money to one of the arresting officers,” he said.

The man is due to appear at the Durban Magistrate’s Court soon.

In October last year, customs officials at King Shaka International Airport intercepted heroin, illegal skin whitening cream and counterfeit clothes in three separate incidents worth a combined value of over R20-million were seized by SARS officials.
