Armed robbers target home in Glenashley

The suspects made off with a large sum of cash in the armed robbery.

A GANG of armed robbers stormed a home on The Promenade in Glenashley on Sunday afternoon. The suspects, who were using a silver Audi, surprised the homeowner in his driveway.

Durban North SAPS spokesman, Capt Raymond Deokaran, said the homeowner thought his relatives had come to visit and opened the gate.

“Five armed suspects holding pistols and an AK47 held the homeowner up and demanded to know where the valuables were kept. They made off with a large sum of money, cell phones and jewellery. A case of armed robbery was opened at the station and no arrests have yet been made,” he said.

The armed robbery follows a string of incidents in the north Durban area including the attack and robbery of an 85-year-old resident in Cadogan Drive last week.

According to police, the elderly resident was struck over the head with her own walking stick. The suspect involved was later arrested after breaking into a garage in the same area.
