Public Works warns of internship scam

The department said the internship purported to be advertised by the National Department of Public Works.

THE Department of Public Works has warned residents about a scam, involving an internship programme, that recently surfaced.

In a statement released on Monday, the department said the internship purported to be advertised by the National Department of Public Works.

“The Department would like to distance itself from such and would like to warn the public to be careful and not fall prey to these scams. The advert might look legitimate but it is not, the platform that is used and the contents of the advert are all wrong. They are misleading and enticing unsuspecting prospective applicants,” the department said.

Public Works and other government departments advertised through the Department of Public Service and Administration (DPSA) website under vacancies as well as through national newspaper’s vacancies or jobs section and not through unknown websites.

“When in doubt, members of the public should verify the authenticity of the adverts by contacting the National Department of Public Works Human Resources Recruitment representative, Muriel Magane at 012 406 1552,” read the statement.
