Three arrested after Sunningdale house robbery
The armed gang involved in the robbery pepper sprayed the owner in the incident.
THREE men behind the armed robbery of a Sunningdale home have been arrested after a high speed chase which ended on Duffs Road. The suspects, aged between 21 and 30, were arrested after the getaway attempt in a stolen vehicle ended in an accident with the vehicle overturning in the impact.
According to provincial SAPS spokesperson, captain Nqobile Gwala, the suspects had accosted the homeowner at her home on Sugarfarm Trail at about 4am on Wednesday (5 June).
“They attacked the victim and stole a TV set, jewellery, cell phones and other household items. They loaded all these items into the victim’s vehicle. The victim activated the panic alarm and police officers from the Durban North SAPS responded together with officers from a security company.

“The vehicle was spotted in uMhlanga and a chase ensued. The suspects then fled towards KwaMashu. The suspects lost control of their vehicle as it overturned near Duffs Road. Two of the suspects sustained injuries and were taken to hospital where they are held under police guard,” she said
According to Marshall Security’s Kyle Van Reenen the suspects had cut through the security gate using bolt cutters to gain entry to the home.
“The suspects confronted the female homeowner by pepper spraying her before confining her to a bedroom and ransacking her home and making off with her motor vehicle,” Van Reenen said.

Various house breaking implements such as bolt cutters as well as stolen items were recovered by the police. The suspects are expected to appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court soon.
