Clothing store robbed at Pearls Mall

The suspects were pursued into the Durban CBD where they evaded police and security personnel.

A CLOTHING store at the Pearls Mall in uMhlanga was targeted in an armed robbery on Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Durban North SAPS, four suspects robbed the store, taking clothes, perfumes and shoes before fleeing in their getaway vehicle, a white Toyota Avanza.

Yolandé Mattison, retail manager at the mall, confirmed the incident had taken place at about 12.20pm on Wednesday.

“We confirm that the Luminance store at the Pearls Mall was robbed. We understand that four armed robbers entered the store and held up the staff.  The store was robbed of some stock. Marshall Security, the Pearls Mall security provider, was alerted and responded immediately.

“They pursued the robbers all the way to central Durban where the suspects were lost in traffic. The Pearls Mall Management confirms that adequate measures are in place to provide the necessary security for the stores in the mall,” she said.

A case of business robbery has been opened at the Durban North police station.

The armed robbery is the second incident at a mall in recent weeks, following the robbery of the Telkom store at La Lucia Mall last month.
