eMdloti’s lost horses safe and sound

Belinda Weyer of the Bellamont Stables explained that a power outage was behind the horses' escape the previous night.

THE horses that went missing from the Bellamont Stables in eMdloti yesterday were safely returned to their stables at around 8pm last night. Co-manager of the stables, Belinda Weyer Weyer explained that the horses had escaped when a power outage affected the stable’s electric tape horse fencing.

“We have an electric tape that keeps the horses inside and there was a power outage that night and the horses must have pushed through the tape,” she said.

Weyer thanked the community for their support during the search.

“We found the horses about one kilometre away from the stables after they were spotted near the N2. We had to track them as they were hiding in the bushes. I think they were close enough to the highway for motorists to see them.  We even had someone sponsor the use of a helicopter during the search, which we never could have afforded.  Everyone was so kind and gave of their time. Thank you to the public,” she said.

A plea for help went out on social media yesterday afternoon.

“The horses might have been a bit hungry and thirsty but otherwise, they are absolutely fine,” said Weyer.
