Learners jet off to New York comp
The local residents are hoping to raise funds for the trip.
GLENASHLEY resident, Swazi Thabethe and Redhill resident, Omuhle Dlomo have been selected to go to New York to compete in the next round of the International Modeling and Talent Agency (IMTA) competition in July 2020. The thought of jetting off to the US is an exciting prospect since they have never left South Africa.
“We are going to be performing in front of 300 different agents. If they like us, there is an opportunity to do an interview the next day,” said Thabethe.
“I’m hoping that Disney will like me, because I really want to act. I have always been influenced by Cameron Boyce. He was this very funny little boy who brought joy and humour to TV. I told myself that when I finished school I would work hard and study drama to pursue my dreams,” added Dlomo.

The pair qualified for the competition after taking part in the Durban and Krugersdorp rounds. Both girls competed in the acting section of the competition, performing monologues. Thabethe impressed judges with her strong voice in the signing segment while Dlomo strutted her stuff in the modelling category, wearing a simple pink and denim ensemble.
“I most enjoy commercial modelling. It’s about persuading customers to buy a brand,” said Dlomo.
For songbird, Thabethe music is a way of uplifting others.
“I love the fact that you can send people a message through the song you sing,” she said.

When she writes her own songs, she often writes from another persons perspective, by thinking about the situation they are in.
