Speaking to Northglen News about her service, de Beer said it has been an enjoyable journey.

“When I started working for the paper, the office was still in Glenashley. We then moved to Somerset Park before moving to New Germany. Since last year, my office was stationed at the Durban North Methodist Church,” she said.

De Beer said she met and worked with scores of interesting people but journalist, Shiraz Habib, will always have a special place in her heart.

“The team changed a few times but Shiraz was a constant. He has been such a lovely person to work with,” she said.

“I know people will continue to stop me and ask me questions related to Northglen News and that’s fine. It will always be that way. Northglen News will always be with me,” she said.

De Beer is now enjoying her free time having coffee and catching up with old friends. The highlight is that she gets to see her grandchildren more often.

Speaking about her successor, de Beer said Wheatley is the perfect fit.

“Tyla is very patient and I know clients and colleagues will enjoy having her in the business,” she added.

Wheatley is originally from Johannesburg and has been living in Wentworth for seven years.

She comes from a strong administrative background and says she is excited to be part of the Northglen News team.

“I look forward to meeting new clients and growing with the company,” she said.

If you would like to place a domestic classifieds advert, see Wheatley at the Durban North Methodist Church, Monday to Friday from 08:00 to midday.
