This comes after a woman, who took a video, accused staff of stealing donated items from the Virginia Airport, which is currently a drop off point and operations site for search and rescue workers.

“eThekwini Municipality has become aware of a video claiming that one of our employees is stealing donated goods. The driver was not stealing. She is one of our employees in the Community Participation Unit and is assigned to deliver donation to one of the townships,”  said municipal spokesperson, Msawakhe Mayisela.

Mayisela said some of residents who donated goods had insisted that their donations be delivered to areas of their choice.

“The areas they dictate are not the most impacted. It is unfortunate that the employee in question has had her reputation tarnished in this manner,” he said.
