Multiple injured in serious crash near uMhlanga

The accident occurred in uMhlanga on the M4 Freeway last night.

A SERIOUS collision involving two vehicles on the M4 Northern Freeway near the Umhlanga offramp left six people injured on Tuesday evening.

ALS Paramedics responded to multiple emergency calls shortly before 20:00.

“Upon arrival, paramedics found one vehicle severely damaged in the roadway and a second vehicle that had veered into nearby bushes. Several individuals sustained injuries, with one driver trapped inside the wreckage,” said ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson.

The eThekwini Fire Department, additional ambulances and advanced life support paramedics assisted at the scene.

Firefighters used the Jaws of Life to free a trapped patient, while paramedics worked to stabilise them before extricating them from the vehicle.

“In total, six individuals from both vehicles sustained injuries ranging from moderate to serious. Once stabilised, all were transported to various Durban hospitals for further medical care,” added Jamieson.

The crash caused significant traffic delays as emergency crews secured and cleared the scene.
