Rediscover Umhlanga as school holidays come to an end

Umhlanga Tourism encourages locals to enjoy beaches, nature walks and support local businesses before the school holidays wrap up.

As the final days of the school holidays slip by, Umhlanga invites locals to slow down, step outside and rediscover the magic of their own city.

Umhlanga Tourism chairperson Naomi Crous encourages residents to make the most of this time.

“You don’t need a long road trip or a plane ticket to feel like you’re on holiday; sometimes the best getaway is right on your doorstep,” said Crous.

“Start with what Umhlanga does best: the outdoors. A trip to the beach is always a winner and completely free. Early morning walks along the shoreline, sandcastle-building with the kids or a late-afternoon swim are simple pleasures that never get old,” she said.

Just as rewarding is a scenic stroll along the Umhlanga Promenade, a walk through the Lagoon Nature Reserve where shaded paths, birdlife and calm waters offer a peaceful escape at no cost.

Beyond free activities, being a tourist in your own city also means showing some love to local businesses, added Crous.

“Something as small as grabbing a quick coffee, enjoying an ice cream, or buying a small item from a local store makes a real difference. A relaxed lunch or early dinner at one of Umhlanga’s many restaurants turns an ordinary day into a holiday moment, while supporting the people who give the area its vibrant character, ” she said.

“As the school holidays come to an end, we encourage locals to get out, explore, relax and support the many businesses that make Umhlanga such a special destination,” added Crous.
