Ratepayers’ body calls for height restriction signage
The Kenville and Sea Cow Lake Ratepayers' and Residents' Association says there have been at least six incidents which they are aware of.
IN 2024 the chairperson of the Kenville and Sea Cow Lake Ratepayers’ and Residents’ Association, Anil Beekrum, called for height restriction signs to be added to low-lying bridges in the area.
At the time incidents on Temple Road and Sea Cow Lake Road, where truck drivers had gotten stuck, were cited as examples which the Northglen News reported on.
During the December holidays another incident was recorded, where a truck got wedged under the low-lying railway bridge near the Umgeni Iron Works.

Heads-up for truck drivers
“Following the latest incident I wrote to the eThekwini Municipality requesting height restriction signage to be put up again. I also contacted our PR ward councillor and the feedback we received from the City was to say it wasn’t necessary. They then added they would look at it. If I look back over the years, I would say we have had more than six incidents on different roads where there are low-lying bridges,” he said.
“We feel height restriction signs will help and prevent further accidents from occurring. In the incident in December, sadly traffic was badly affected because of the truck being stuck under the bridge. There are a few low railway bridges on Sea Cow Lake Road, Valley Road and Temple Road which could pose an issue for a truck driver, who is either lost, or looking to take a shortcut. I also feel for drivers who may be led through an area incorrectly by their GPS,” he said.
