Adopt the Durban and Coast SPCA in annual campaign

The association is urging schools and companies to get behind its Adopt a Month Pet Food Campaign.

EARLIER this month, the Durban & Coast SPCA appealed to the north Durban community to assist with food donations as their dog and cat food stocks were running dangerously low.

Marketing manager of the association Tanya Fleischer said the SPCA can feed up to 200 dogs and 60 cats on a daily basis. She added that the SPCA uses more than R6 000 worth of food per day.

With that in mind, the association is urging schools and companies to get behind its Adopt a Month Pet Food Campaign.

Durban & Coast SPCA marketing coordinator Krystal Pretorius explained the campaign has run for the past three years.

“Over the past few months, it’s been heartbreaking to see how many pets have been surrendered because people can no longer afford to keep them. The rising cost of living has added to the hardship and distress for people and animals. At the SPCA, our job is to provide abused, neglected and unwanted animals with a safe haven in the hopes they will find their forever homes.

“We are appealing to schools and local businesses to get behind our campaign where you adopt our SPCA for just one month and collect much-needed food for the animals in our care. You can choose any month on the calendar, and more than one company or school can adopt the association in a single month. We are in urgent need of dry food, but those involved in the campaign are welcome to collect anything they’d like to. We are challenging schools and companies to get involved,” she said.

Pretorius added that for participating schools, the SPCA will provide posters for the food drive and also visit participating schools to educate them about animal welfare.

If you would like to get involved, contact Krystal on 031 579 6533 or email operations@spcadbn.org.za.
