Glen An-Hills Neighbourhood Watch to fight crime with additional cameras

The watch has identified 16 points they hope to install high definition cameras to aid in the fight against crime.

IN an effort to combat crime in the area, the Glen An-Hills Neighbourhood Watch has embarked on a camera project.

A total of 16 points have been identified at strategic positions in the Glen Hills and Glen Anil areas as funding allows.

The watch recently embarked on a fundraising drive to install its first set of cameras with the aim of using technology to aid the fight against crime explained chairperson of the watch, Neil Olivier.

“We’ve identified a gap with some of the security cameras already installed in the area. We have a number of Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras but with these high-definition cameras we hope to fill those gaps to give security companies additional eyes on the ground.

“We’ve noticed a sharp rise in fence hoppers that leads to break-ins and robberies in the last few weeks. We also hope to use the cameras to track cars and people who are involved in illegal dumping. There are a number of hotspots in the area and we understand the DSW is understaffed. These cameras will help aid the fight to prosecute illegal dumpers,” Olivier said.

The first camera is set to be installed at the bottom end of Glen Anil Street.
