World’s largest floating book fair docks in Durban

Visitors to the Logos Hope will be offered an expanded selection of over 5 000 books that cover a wide range of subjects.

BOOK enthusiasts will be spoiled for choice when the world’s largest floating book fair, the Logos Hope, visits Durban following an 8-year hiatus.

The ship will be docked at the Port of Durban, Nelson Mandela Cruise Terminal from Wednesday, May 8 to Sunday, June 2.

During the book fair, Durban Tourism will utilise the opportunity and do an activation with interesting activities that will promote Durban as a world-class cruise port destination.

Visitors to the Logos Hope will be offered an expanded selection of over 5 000 books that cover a wide range of subjects including science, sports, hobbies, cookery, arts, medicine, languages, and faith at an affordable price. The selection will also boast children’s titles, academic texts, dictionaries, atlases and more.

The visitor experience on board includes the deck, which is open for the public to explore, the welcome area, which introduces the vessel through a short movie and interactive displays and an international café.

eThekwini Municipality Mayor Councillor Mxolisi Kaunda said the visit is an indication that the investment made through the Port of Durban expansion is now paying off and attracting more cruise liners to the City.

Logos Hope opening days and hours are Tuesdays to Saturdays from 11:00 to 20:00. On Sundays they will open at 13:00 and close at 20:00. The ship is closed on Mondays. The entrance fee is R10 per person. Kids U12 and seniors over 60 years of age enter for free.

The Book Fair will open for school visits from Friday, May 24 to Sunday, June 2. All visits must be pre-booked. Learners from Grade Four and above are invited to book, with each group of 10 students requiring supervision by at least one teacher or adult.
