The Baby Home Durban North unveils its Mandela Day art exhibition initiative
As part of its fundraising and awareness-driven projects, the baby home is encouraging schools to get behind the project.

MANDELA Day may be two months away, but The Baby Home Durban North has started its fundraising plans in earnest.
Jo Teunissen, who runs the baby home, said that, this year, they plan on hosting a ‘Colours of Love’ art exhibition which will act as an awareness and fundraising campaign for the home.
They have partnered with Redwood College La Lucia where the exhibition will be held and will be joined by artist Shaun Oakley, known popularly as That Damn Vandal, as one of their judges.
The Glen-Anil-based home is encouraging schools and learners to get behind the initiative.

“The art exhibition titled ‘Colours of Love’ will tie in with our Mandela Day activities. The idea behind the exhibition is that art will need to represent the theme and can highlight any aspect of our rainbow nation – things that make our country unique or proudly South African. The options are endless. We will then host a three-day art exhibition from July 18 to July 20 at the school, and there will also be prizes for learners in each grade who meet the brief or are the most creative,” Teunissen said.
“The exhibition also aims to showcase the artistic talents of our community’s youth while raising funds and awareness for The Baby Home. The exhibition will be in collaboration with well-known local artists and will also be an excellent opportunity for students to express their creativity, gain exposure and contribute to a meaningful cause. Of course, we would love to get more schools involved. The exhibition is open to everyone from pre-primary all the way up to high school. This really is all about community. You can either enter as a school or as an individual and pay for your entry. Proceeds from the exhibition and any donations made during the event will directly benefit The Baby Home, allowing us to continue doing what we do for the children in our care.”
