Woman drowns at uMhlanga Beach
The woman went into cardiac arrest after being taken out of the water.
A WOMAN in her 30s has drowned after she got into difficulty at the Durban View beach in uMhlanga on Tuesday afternoon (December 3).
The woman, believed to be from Amaoti, was declared deceased by paramedics after rescuers tried for close to 30 minutes to resuscitate her using CPR.
According to an eyewitness who did not want to be named, eThekwini Municipality lifeguards, Netcare 911 ambulance services and Marshall Security were on scene.
It is believed that the woman was in the water with a group of friends when she got into difficulty.

She was pulled to the shoreline by friends and members of the public, but according to the eyewitness, was not responsive.
She went into cardiac arrest, and despite the best efforts of rescuers and first responders, she was declared deceased.
This is the second drowning in a week in the uMhlanga area at a non-swimming beach.
On Friday last week, the body of the 23-year-old man who was swept out to sea at the Eastmoor Crescent beach was recovered in Clarke Bay, Ballito, more than 30km away.

The man, who was on holiday from Limpopo, was missing for several days after being caught in rip currents while swimming.
Last week, the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) urged bathers around the coast to swim at beaches protected by lifeguards and be aware of rip currents that constantly form at different places along the coastline.
