Dolphins seal crucial victory again Knights

The Dolphins had Jason Smith and Hanu Viljoen to thank as their half centuries helped the Durban side secure victory.

HALF centuries from Jason Smith and Hanu Viljoen and a partnership worth 103 helped the Dolphins chase down 196 to beat the ITEC Knights in the One Day Cup on Friday night at Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Stadium.

The win was the third in a row for the Dolphins who have revitalised their season and put themselves in a position to fight for a semi-final spot with one match to go in the group phase.

Smith and Viljoen’s composed partnership was ultimately the difference between the two sides with the middle order batters controlling things for the Dolphins.

The Knights won the toss and elected to bat first but they were pegged back by good bowling by the Dolphins.

Tiaan Van Vuuren top scored for the visitors with 54 but three wickets from Tristan Luus and two wickets each for Eathan Bosch, Prenelan Subrayen and Andile Simelane restricted the Knights to 196 all out in their 50 overs.

The Dolphins got off to inauspicious start losing opener Jon-Jon Smuts in the third over but it was smooth sailing from there.

Jason Smith’s 71 and Hanu Viljoen’s 64 ultimately proved to be the difference in the game.

It was Viljoen’s second consecutive fifty in the competition.

Scoreboard summary

Toss: Knights
ITEC Knights 196/10 (50 overs)
Hollywoodbets Dolphins 197/5 (46.2 overs)
